And SJRB crashes again.

All I need is a good four week rally then I can exercise my stock options.

The way it’s sitting right now I’m screwed.

New Beginnings Again!

So here we go with part two of the new beginning. I got my pay stub today; I have to say I’m quite pleasantly surprised. Turns out I under-estimated what I’ll be making and after making a very livable budget I’m ahead of the game.

Drop it like it’s hot.

Answering the salary question

I could have used this a few weeks ago :)

New phones

So I’ve been in the market for a new phone for a while. After reading online that Windows Mobile 7 and Google Android phones should be available in Canada in the next little while, I think I’ll be holding off for a bit. No offense to the Blackberry users and Iphones, but the developed applications and platform constraints are just too high on your devices.

This will be a new era for me, waiting for an upgrade that makes sense. I’m happy with my mobile for the most part except that the microphone sucks. That can be fixed with a nice Bluetooth handset. Anyone seen one that looks like a phone?

All this solar energy mumbo jumbo

What is the effect of using solar energy going to be on the environment?

The law of conservation of energy says that it must stay on the planet or be radiated back to space. If we are capturing it and then re-releasing it in the form of friction and movement, what kind of butterfly effect is it going to produce? Is a reduction in greenhouse gas going to allow satisfactory dissipation to occur or are we going to be a big planet of carpet shuffling shock monkeys?

We think it’s clean, and by today’s standards it most certainly is, but what is the long term cost? I’m sure Ford never foresaw the problems with an internal combustion engine. The horseless carriage was probably a welcome alternative to storing hay and oats and cleaning up horse shit.

Last night I had the weirdest dream.

Four missiles flew by the apartment block in a cartoon-like animation, then flew off and blew up the Scurfield industrial Park. Portage and Main got hit too by a similar volley. My old place of work was a large glass pyramid like you'd find at the Louvre.

Extremists of some sort took credit for it. I remember thinking "Oh no, they're going to take my cats."

I was very glad to wake up from that dream, let me tell you.

Outlook Troubleshooting

Just a quick list of Outlook fixes for weird issues that don’t have an immediate solution apparent. I found this list after doing a search for why the Outlook Inbox wasn’t refreshing. Turns out it was the Windows Search Add-in.

1. Reset the Outlook toolbar template. With Outlook close, do a search for and rename outcmd.dat file. Restart Outlook. Do the same for outlprnt file.

In Windows XP Outcmd.dat is located in C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook folder. In Windows Vista, file is located in C:\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook folder. It is a hidden file, so you have to unhide hidden files. Go to any folder and select Tools > Folders Options > View. Check "Show hidden files and folders". Click OK.

2. Register important Outlook files. If using Windows XP, go to Start > Run and type regsvr32 OLE32.DLL and hit OK.

If using Vista and you get an error, run regsvr32.exe from an elevated command prompt. To get an elevated command prompt, right-click on the "Command Prompt" shortcut and select "Run as Administrator".

3. An addin could be corrupt. Start > Run - and type outlook /safe to open in Safe Mode. If it opens in safe mode, disable Outlook Addins until you find the culprit.  Go to Tools > Trust Center > Add-Ins disable the addins. You’ll click on the button at the bottom to do this.

4. Check if an external program running in the background is interfering with Outlook. Check Firewall, antivirus and other security programs, Yahoo and Google toolbars, and desktop search programs. Disable these programs one at a time. (Windows Search is disabled in step 3)

5. On the Help menu, click Office Diagnostics. > Continue > Start Diagnostics

6. Go for coffee.

7. Create a new Outlook profile.

8. Spend some time on Google, confer with colleagues over coffee.

9. Last resort, reinstall or repair Outlook.  Go to Add/Remove Programs and highlight Microsoft Office. Click on Install/Uninstall.  A menu will pop allowing you to choose repair or reinstall.

TipJoy Tipjar on puzzlequest.ca

http://www.puzzlequest.ca/ is a little solutions site I've been maintaining for one of my favorite games.

I just dropped a TipJoy tip jar on this site. Basically a person signs in and gives you a tip with their twitter account. The result so far? I've made $0.99 after about six hours. Go early adoption!

We'll see how this works out, I hope it works out better than the Adsense I've got going on it now.
