I wonder which is bigger.. The Penis, or the Balls.

Head to body..
hands to arms..

Homunculus figures of this sort are used to demonstrate the concentration of sensory nerves in the body. Body parts with more sensory nerves are bigger than those with fewer sensory nerves. See also this page.

The homunculus actually means "little man" and is in reference to the "little man" represented in our brains. His body is not proportioned correctly because in the brain the body is not represented according to the size of limbs, but rather their importance in perceiving the world around us. So, as you can see things like the hands, lips, tongue, and to some extent the eyes, are greatly enlarged. Anyways, so this guy represents your brains allotment of space to body parts.

It is said that the word Homunculus was first used by an alchemist who created a "tiny man" who would perform any task for it's creator, but eventually turned on him for reasons unkown. The recipe claimed to create this being varies drastically but usually contains sperm, blood and skin fragments of the creator and bones of a small animal in order for it to form around. This mixture is then either placed in a sack or somehow in an egg shell, buried, then covered in horse manure. The creature would then be born out of the manure and serve it's creator.
